The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-7 participated in the 24th National General Assembly of Midwives on Thursday, April 27, at Waterfront Hotel and Convention Center, Lahug, Cebu City.

DILG-7 Director Leocadio Trovela represented Assistant Secretary Elizabeth De Leon during the activity. In his speech, Dir. Trovela emphasized the significant impact of the respective local chief executives to improve career opportunities and compensation of the midwives.

Further, he reiterated that the DILG supports all efforts to encourage Local Government Units to adhere on the policies set by laws on enhancing midwifery career development as they play a key role in delivering patient-focused maternal health services.

Also present were Undersecretary Keneth Ronquillo of the Department of Health and Chairman Melchor dela Cruz of the Board of Midwifery, Professional Regulation Commission.

The National General Assembly was attended by the midwives across the country.
