In participation to the series of activities related to the 2021 Quincentennial Commemorations, DILG-7 Director Leocadio Trovela and LGMED chief and concurrent DILG Cebu City officer-in-charge Atty. Ian Kenneth Lucero, joined the rest of the local officials and organizing team in witnessing the historic arrival of Spanish navy training ship Juan Sebastian Elcano in Cebu on March 20, 2021.

The ship’s visit to Cebu from March 20 to 22 reenacted the first circumnavigation of the globe 500 years ago.

It was also part of the 500th anniversary celebration of the birth of Christianity in the Philippines.

Culminating the goodwill port call was the exchanging of gifts between the Cebu City Government led by Mayor Edgardo Labella and Vice Mayor Michael Rama and Embassy of Spain in Manila represented by Deputy Head of Mission Amaya Fuentes Milani.
