The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-7 is one with the nation in reminding people of the importance of fresh water and advocating sustainable management of water resources as the world celebrates 2023 World Water Day.

DILG-7 spearheaded by the Project Development and Management Unit (PDMU) of the Office of the Regional Director held a series of activities highlighted by the on-the-spot painting contest for students and regional office personnel.

The regional office invited students from different colleges and universities in Cebu for the contest which carried the theme “Accelerating Change to Solve the Water and Sanitation Crisis.”

Cebu Normal University (CNU) student Jason Banono snagged first place and the P5,000 cash prize.

Engr. John Arnold Reluya of the DILG Regional Office and Josh Almonte of the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F) placed second and third. The runners-up won P3,000 and P2,000, respectively.

Other participants were from Cebu Eastern College, Cebu Technological University, University of Cebu, University of the Philippines, University of San Carlos, Apas National High School and DILG personnel of FAD, LGCDD, LGMED and PDMU.

Part of the celebration was the water conservation discussion by Engr. Petronio Muring, a water sanitation and training specialist.

A quiz bowl regarding water conservation was also conducted. The team of LGCDD won first place, FAD placed second and Planning-IO settled for third.

DILG Regional Director Leocadio Trovela and Assistant Regional Director Maria Loisella Lucino led the awarding ceremony and recognition of participants.
