KKK Kalayaan

KALAYAAN was the official newspaper of the Katipunan. It was produced and circulated on the brink of the revolution. The publication of the first issue of the Kalayaan helped swell the ranks of the Katipunan and win more adherents to its side.

Andres Bonifacio, Emilio Jacinto, and Dr. Pio Valenzuela created Kalayaan, an all-Tagalog newspaper, to advocate for complete Philippine independence

However, it was forced to close right afterwards when the colonial authorities discovered the society, with only one issue dated January 18, 1896, being published.

The Kalayaan espoused the principles of liberty and democracy, recognizing Filipino’s right to chart their future free from colonial exploitation- a dream that stirred our forefathers into action.

Apart from this, the concept on Kalayaan was an elusive yet noble aspiration which our forebears painstakingly paid for with their sacrifices, blood, and tears amid colonial subjugation.

In this digital and modern times, DILG-7, The Freeman, and Rizal-Blumentritt Pamathalaan Academy want to continue and uphold the very purpose of the Kalayaan press by providing this online platform as a powerful vehicle for the attainment of positive change in our society through accurate reporting and promoting real stories on the ground that would help shape and change public perception on relevant issues and happenings, stirring people into action.
