Training for trainers conducted for Amuma sa Barangay

Field officers from the Provinces of Cebu and Negros Oriental and the highly urbanized cities of Cebu, Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue underwent training of trainers on the implementation of its innovative and multi-sectoral program entitled “AMUMA sa Barangay”.

The activity today, November 10, was in preparation for the kickoff of the program in 38 target barangays in the region. Regional Focal Person LGOO V Emarie Quema-Deiparine discussed the concept and design of the program while World Vision Philippines Program Coordinator Mie Laurente explained the modules and facilitated the workshops.

Derived from the Cebuano word “amuma” that means “to nourish, to take care of”, the AMUMA sa Barangay program, which is the brainchild of Regional Director Leocadio Trovela, aims to strengthen the capability of barangay governments in building and sustaining accountable, progressive and self-reliant communities for the benefit of their constituents.

The Department, in close collaboration with partner national government agencies, local government units, and non-government organizations, will undertake a series of activities to capacitate barangay governments in effectively adopting and implementing programs and projects for target vulnerable sectors to ensure economic and livelihood security and inculcate the importance of savings and financial management through the organization of community savings groups and conduct of economic and livelihood skills trainings and other capacity development activities.

DILG-7 awards 25 barangays for SGLGB

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Central Visayas awarded 25 barangays in Central Visayas with Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangay (SGLGB) during the Regional Awarding Ceremony on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 in Mezzo Hotel, Cebu City.

Twenty-five out of 3,003 barangays in Region 7 were given the coveted recognition. Awardees from Bohol were barangays Canmaya Diot (Sagbayan), Dipatlong (Maribojoc), East Poblacion (Alburquerque), Moto Norte (Loon), Pinayagan Sur (Tubigon), Talisay (Anda), and Yanangan (Loay); from Cebu Province were Calambua (San Remigio), Mohon (Sogod), Tugas (Madridejos), Toong (San Remigio), from Negros Oriental were Basak (Zamboanguita), San Jose (Sta. Catalina), Tabon (Vallehermoso), and Villareal (Bayawan City); for Siquijor were Cang-inte (Siquijor), Libo (Enrique Villanueva), Logucan (Marie), Sandugan (Larena), and Tambisan (San Juan). For the HUCs were barangays Budlaan (Cebu City), Bangkal (Lapu-Lapu City), and Paknaan, Subangdaku and Tabok (Mandaue City).

LGOO trainees present final outputs from Supervised Field Work

Eight Local Government Operations Officers (LGOOs) from DILG Region 7 presented the final output of their Supervised Field Work (SFW) during the conduct of the Oral Presentation on Monday, November 7, 2020.

The presenters were LGOOs II Atty. Michael Vencynth Braga, Joycelou Telmo, Maria Jean Lorina Salazar, Jed Ighot, Jun Arcy Pacleb, Cresencio Antolin Aseniero, Leonell Cawayan, and Nino Vincent Fiel.The panelists were DILG-6 Assistant Regional Director Ma. Calpiza Sardua, DILG Zamboanga Del Norte Provincial Director Oliver Ombos, DILG Zambales Provincial Director Martin Porres Moral, and CARAGA SFW Coordinator Annabel Yangson.

This oral presentation concludes the Supervised Field Work component of the ongoing LGOO II and III apprenticeship training.

DILG-7 prepares for BIDA Visayas lauching

In line with the preparations for the grand launching of the Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan (BIDA) program, top DILG officials, regional office personnel and Cebu City LGU had a coordination meeting and conducted an ocular inspection on Friday, November 4, 2022.

Present were DILG Undersecretary for Local Government Marlo Iringan, Assistant Secretary for Plans and Programs Francisco Cruz, DILG-7 Assistant Regional Director Ma. Loisella Lucino, LGMED Chief Celerino Magto Jr., OIC-DILG Cebu City Director Dr. Neila Aquino, DILG Cebu City Cluster Head Michael Eltanal, Regional focal person for BIDA program LGOO II Camille Pateres, and personnel from Cebu City LGU and DILG-7.

A nationwide simultaneous grand launching will be held in four key cities on November 26, to officially kickoff the start of the program, highlighting the call for support of the President, the Secretary of the Interior and Local Government, key officials, and stakeholders in mobilizing the nationwide advocacy campaign.BIDA Program, the flagship program of DILG Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr., aims to raise awareness and encourage community participation in drug demand reduction.

PDMU holds coordination meeting

To ensure the quality of service rendered for its clients and the community, the personnel from Regional Project Development Management Unit (PDMU) convened on Friday, November 4, 2022.

LGCDD Chief Maria Thelya Oporto and PDMU Chief Rommel Correa led the meeting, which discussed updating of deliverables and catch-up plans, including the enrollment of infrastructure projects of LGUs to the Subaybayan system.

PDMU personnel who presented updates of their respective programs were Engr. IV Archie Garson, DMO IV Bernadette Forones-Camilo, Engr. III John Arnold Reluya, Engr. III Hannah Joy Paz, ISA III Reymund Cuizon, and PEO II Edwin Monceda.

Dir. Trovela shares inspirational message to RTC-7 graduates

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG Director Leocadio Trovela shared inspirational message and words of wisdom to 162-strong policemen during the graduation ceremony of the Public Safety Basic Recruit Course (PSBRC) RTC-7 Batch 2021-03 Class Alpha to Delta at the Regional Training Center-7 ground in Consolacion, Cebu on Thursday, November 3, 2022. Dir. Trovela, the guest of honor and speaker of the graduation ceremony, then challenged the graduates of Batch PINAGPALA (Pinili at Nagkaisa Para sa isang Layunin at Adhikain) to continue to serve with vigor and determination. “As you continue this journey in public service, press on, and strive for genuine and effective service. With greater vision and finer spirit, you are more than ready to take on your sacred obligation to serve and protect our country and its people,” Dir. Trovela said in his message. Dir. Trovela also welcomed the new RTC-7 chief, PCOL Miguel M Guzman. “We wish you the best in your stint as the chief here in RTC Central Visayas, PCOL Guzman. Congratulations RTC 7 for the successful management of this Public Safety Basic Recruit Course,” he said.

DILG-7 launches Batariz for youth leaders

Youth groups across Cebu converged in Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City for the Batang Kaparis ni Rizal (BATARIZ) Youth Camp initiated by the Department of the Interior and in partnership with Knights of Rizal, National Youth Commission (NYC) and the RAFI Center for Leaders. Over 100 youths from different universities and colleges, and community youth organizations join the three-day camp, which opened on Tuesday, October 25, 2022. The students are from the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation, University of San Carlos, University of Cebu, Cebu Normal University, Cebu Technological University, University of the Visayas, Cebu Institute of Technology-University, and SWU-Phinma. The community youth groups, meanwhile, are from Cebu Province, Cebu City, Mandaue City and Lapu-Lapu City. PDMU Chief Rommel Correa formally opened the camp with a message and overview of the program. It was followed with activities from RAFI. Commissioner Dr. Emmanuel Calairo of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines discussed the Life and Teachings of Rizal. The youths take part in a series of discussions and various activities until October 27.

PBGEN Alba makes courtesy call to Dir. Trovela

Police Brigadier General Roderick Augustus Alba, the new director of the Police Regional Office , paid a courtesy visit to DILG-7 Director Leocadio Trovela on Thursday morning at the DILG-7 Regional Office in Sudlon, Lahug, Cebu City.PBGen.

Alba was with PCol. Noel Flores, the deputy regional director for operations; Atty. Edhel Pereira, chief of PRO-7 legal office; and personnel from PRO-7. Also present was Cebu Provincial Director Atty. Ian Kenneth Lucero and Local Government Monitoring and Evaluation Division (LGMED) Chief Celerino Magto Jr. PBGen.

Alba, a member of the Philippine National Police Academy “Tagapagpatupad” Class of 1992, replaced PBGen. Roque Eduardo DP Vega, who ended his stint due to compulsory retirement last October 13, 2022.

RD’s Cup fires off

To foster camaraderie and improve the overall well-being of its personnel, DILG-7 headed by Regional Director Leocadio Trovela staged a sportsfest aptly dubbed as RD’s Cup at the Regional Office in Sudlon, Lahug, Cebu City.

The event blasted off on Friday with a parade of teams, special number of muses, exhibition games and the start of 3×3 basketball competition. Dir. Trovela led the opening ceremony with FAD Chief Atty. Ferdinand Albaño and LGMED Chief Celerino Magto Jr.

Dir. Trovela signaled the opening of the event followed with the ceremonial toss by Atty. Albaño, and the oath of sportsmanship spearheaded by PDMU Chief Rommel Correa. Personnel from Regional Office will compete in the 3×3 basketball and badminton. The venue of the events is all inside the Regional Office premise.

In the opening games of 3×3 tourney, Third Floor Warriors (IO & GSU) beat Team LMP (Accounting & Budget), 17-9; Team BLM (IT & GSU) defeated LGCDD Hotshots, 15-10; and PDMU Friday outlasted Supply Masters, 15-13.
