Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-7 Leocadio Trovela lauded the efforts of the vice mayors and members of Sangguniang Panglungsod and Sangguniang Bayan in their continued pursuit to genuine local development during the Newly-Elected Officials (NEO) Orientation Course Cum Seminar on Mental Health, Legislation and Philippine Government New Normal System at the Maayo Resort in San Remigio, Cebu on Tuesday, June 1, 2021.

A total of 52 LGUs from Cebu participated in the seminar, which capped off Tuesday with the 10th and final batch from Bogo City and municipalities of Madridejos, Sogod, Borbon and Ronda.
 
DILG-7 personnel together with the Local Governance Regional Resource Center (LGRRC) and other national government agencies provided technical assistance during the course of the seminar to further capacitate local officials in adopting new normal in governance through responsive legislation.
 
DILG-7 resource speakers were Cebu Provincial Director Jhoaden Lucero; LGMED Chief and the concurrent OIC of DILG Cebu City Atty Ian Kenneth Lucero; Atty. Gerlyn Mae C. Sayson of LGMED; DILG Lapu-Lapu City OIC Jonah V. Pino; LGOO V Jerson Obo; LGOO III Jupiter Dawa; among others.
 
“Very critical ang role ng Vice Mayors and Sangguniang in pursuit of genuine local development,” said Dir. Trovela.
 
Further, Dir. Trovela asked the vice mayors and Sangguniang members to continue supporting DILG’s programs especially on the campaign against illegal drugs, anti-insurgency, environmental programs and the ease of doing business.
 
“We have come a long to refresh ourselves with relevant issues, matters concerning our field of specialization that is crafting legislative measures. The learning we acquired wants the usual basic functions of legislators instead we were equipped with relevant issues and doable learnings that we can effectively and efficiently use to accomplish worthwhile legislative measures when we go back to our respective LGUs,” said VMLP-Cebu Chapter president and Talisay City Vice Mayor Alan Bucao in his closing remarks.
 
Participants were the Vice Mayors and the Sangguniang Panlungsod/Bayan Members from highly urbanized cities, component cities and municipalities of Cebu Province.
 
Following the minimum health standard set by the Inter-Agency Task Force, the orientation course was divided into 10 batches from April 26 to June 1 at BAI Hotel in Mandaue City and at Maayo Hotel in San Remigio.
 
The NEO program is a continuing intervention of the DILG through the Local Government Academy in its commitment to provide a harmonized and holistic capacity development delivery mechanism for local governments all over the country.
